The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is an immense wine showcasing a complex and captivating aromatic profile. It bursts with ripe blueberries, blackberries, and blackcurrants, beautifully complemented by crushed violets, savory herbs and exotic spices weave seamlessly into the bouquet, while hints of dark chocolate, loam and graphite add a sophisticated depth. On the palate, this full-bodied Cabernet is polished and dense, revealing a supple texture that enhances its opulence. The concentrated fruit flavors are balanced by lovely acidity, creating a harmonious interplay that highlights the wine’s power and freshness. The finish is impressively long, lingering with layers of dark fruit, earth and nuanced spice, making this a captivating wine that promises to age gracefully for years to come.

2021 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
Andy Erickson and Annie Favia’s Oakville site, set at 300m elevation due east, with the red iron rich volcanic soil of Oakville. Rich depths of flavour are seamed here, laced through with dark chocolate and cocoa bean, olive pit and creamy black cherry and damson fruits, muscular tannins that keep things rooted through the mid palate, great expansion and lift on the finish. 50% new oak, unfiltered, unfined.

2021 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
The smallest traditionally of the production of these three wines, but there is a new vineyard bordering Opus One that will increasingly provide fruit for this. At 900 feet of elevation, close to Screaming Eagle. The most notably sunny of these, and in a way that accentuates the sense of lift. But you notice that less as the wine breathes in the oxygen and relaxes. Iron minerality. Very Cabernet Sauvignon and very Napa. Beadier tannins, glassier and less pointy, but they build and build towards the finish. A little notes of iris. The hint of hyacinth bulb that I also find in the Coombsville wine. Dark berry fruit, a little plum and a touch of black cherry. Walnut shell. This is very chewy and a little unresolved on the finish, but that just means it needs longer. Impressively sapid on the finish, with the tannins gathering just as they start to hint at dryness before a final release of juicy freshness. Excellent. More obviously a vin de garde.

2021 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
The red fruit and tile aromas with terra-cotta come through clearly here. Then there’s sage and bark with cedar undertones. Leaves, too. Then turns to blue fruits. Full body with lovely tannins that are velvety and energetic from the underlying acid and earth character. Excellent finish. Drink after 2028.

2021 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville soars out of the glass. Inky dark cherry, gravel, licorice, graphite and chocolate saturate the palate. Vertical, dense and explosive, the 2021 is wonderfully deep and expressive. There’s plenty of Oakville Ranch tannin, but it is so well-balanced.

2021 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville may be the finest wine I’ve tasted from this estate, although the 2016 might have something to say about that. Ripe blackcurrants, fresh blue fruits, huge minerality, full-bodied richness, a dense, concentrated mid-palate, and incredibly pure notes of chocolate, loamy earth, tobacco, and lead pencil all define this sensational Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannin quality as well as the overall balance are just about off the charts. This warrants 4-5 years in the cellar and will have 2-3 decades of overall longevity.

2019 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
The 2019 Oakville Cabernet is another utterly brilliant wine from Favia. It immediately bursts open with tricking aromatics of ripe black berries and black currants, which are laced with graphite, florals, exotic spices and dusty gravel nuances which all emerge beautifully from the glass. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous full body, that is impeccably structure and polished, with outstanding overall depth and focus. This continues to impress as it displays a remarkable combination of concentration and precision all the way through the long resonating finish. This is an absolutely stunning wine that is already extremely impressive today, however it will only become even more compelling as it evolves over the next two decades.

2019 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
Lots of lead pencil, blackberry, pine needle and some resin. Full-bodied, yet tight and focused, with tight, velvety tannins. Bitter chocolate and some toasted oak. Pepper, too. Drinkable now, but give it three or four years for the tannins to soften. Better after 2026.

Next up, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is a slightly broader, more expansive wine with textbook notes of crème de cassis, tobacco leaf, Asian spices, loamy soil, camphor, and chocolate. Offering full-bodied richness, a beautiful weightlessness on the palate, and building tannins, this is another gorgeous, seamless, singular wine from this estate that will benefit from short-term cellaring and evolve for 20-25 years or more.

2018 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
This has an immense core of cassis, warmed plum sauce and melted black licorice notes supported by dense, earth- and cocoa-accented structure that has a decidedly grippy feel, but with more than enough energy to keep this moving along. Flickers of anise, violet and sassafras filter through on the finish, adding range and boding well for cellaring. Best from 2023 through 2038. 350 cases made.

2017 FAVIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE NAPA VALLEY
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is much more rounded, supple, and sexy compared to the Coombsville with its spicy, blackcurrants, Christmas fruitcake, dusty minerality, and violet aromas and flavors. Rich, rounded, supple, and beautifully polished, it’s a layered, sexy wine, especially in the vintage.
